Pastor Edward Alexander Jr.
Pastor Alexander is married to Edriena Papillion Alexander and they have two beautiful children, Taylor and Isaiah and one beautiful granddaughter Favour. Pastor Alexander is first a man of God and true teacher of the Word. He is guided by his favorite scripture which is Roman 10:17 “So then faith cometh by hearing, and hearing by the word of God.” He is a faithful servant of God’s Word and teaches his congregation to speak life into all situations. He stresses the importance of reciting words of affirmation and faith confessions to yourself and to all of life’s situations.
Prior to becoming a full-time minister, Pastor Alexander worked as teacher, group counselor, basketball coach, and the Intake Director for Boys and Girls Village of Lake Charles where he later served as a board member for the organization. Little did he know that these jobs would prepare him for the most important position he would have as a pastor of a local church.
Being led by the Holy Spirit, he became Pastor of Christian Baptist Church in Lake Charles, Louisiana on December 29, 1994, with a vision to "Meet the Needs of the Total Person - Spirit, Soul, and Body.” The membership is an excess of 900 active members; and new ministries have been created, such as, Children's Church, New Member Orientation Classes, Singles' Ministry, Marriage Ministry, and Hour of Power (A Wednesday night Bible Study). Pastor Alexander praises God for the numerous persons who have come to accept Jesus Christ as their personal Savior.
Along with the new Ministries that were formed, Pastor Alexander was given a new vision for the church, "One Church, Two Locations.” After purchasing 37 ½ acres of land, Christian Baptist Church now has a Family Life Center, located in south Lake Charles. Valued at $5.4M along with the land, the Family Life Center is a part of a multi-phase project. It is a multipurpose facility that includes offices, a gymnasium, a game room, and a state of the art exercise room.
Pastor Alexander is a graduate of McNeese State University, where he received his A.A. in General Studies, and his B.A. in Social Studies Education. While at McNeese, Pastor Alexander was very active on the campus and was described as a “peace maker by fellow students.” He served on the Student Government Association as a Senator, on the Debate team and was elected as a two-term student body president. As part of his dedication and commitment to meeting the needs of people, Pastor Alexander has served on the Pastors on Patrol and the Civil Service Board for the city of Lake Charles, and the Community Awareness Diversity Board for McNeese State University. He is also an active member of the McNeese State University Black Alumni Association. Pastor Alexander’s work as a student and his tireless work as a champion for the college has helped him garner a great working relationship with the institution.
